Il successo mondiale, ha portato il brano in cima alle classifiche musicali di tutto il mondo e conseguentemente, insignito con il certificato multi platino ed inoltre una certificazione quadrupla platino dalla Recording Industry Association of America.
Le vendite superiori a 20 milioni di copie portarono successivamente We Are the World ad essere l’ottavo singolo più venduto di tutti i tempi ed un incasso di oltre 100 milioni di dollari.
